Kaart en routebeschrijving

By Bus.

Buses depart from San Jose to Puerto Viejo daily from the Terminal de San Carlos, also known as the Coca Cola Terminal. Departure times are at 6:00am, 10:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm, and 4:00pm. Make sure to take the Mepe Buses to the Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, not to be confused with Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui. The bus takes about 5 hours, costs just over ₡5,000 and makes one 20 minute stop in Limon for refreshments and bathrooms. From the bus stop in the center of Puerto Viejo, you can catch a cab to Rocking J’s Hostel for ₡2,000, or take the 20 minute walk, just head south out of town, towards Playa Cocles.

By Shuttle.

There are several shuttle services from San Jose to Puerto Viejo, including Caribe Shuttle which has its Puerto Office located within Rocking J’s Hostel. Shuttles will pick you up at the airport or your hostel in San Jose and drop you off right at Rocking J’s Hostel, saving you the hassle of taxis. Shuttles usually make the trip in less than 5 hours, making it a faster mode of travel than the bus. In addition to Caribe Shuttle, Interbus and Easy Ride also offer shuttles to and from Puerto Viejo. Check with each shuttle company for current shuttle times and prices.

By Car.

From San Jose take Route 32 to Limon. You’ll pass through Guapiles, Siquirres and Matina. Once you arrive in Limon take a right to continue on towards Cahuita/Puerto Viejo. You’ll hit the ocean and continue on with the Caribbean by your side until you reach Puerto Viejo. Head south out of town for about 500m and you’ll see the hostel on your left-hand side. Park your car and breathe easy! Depending on traffic and weather conditions, and your driving skills, the drive can take anywhere from 3:30 to 5:30 hours.
